60's-style Strat-size single-coil pickup clips!
June 15th, 2007
The recording setup was identical to the setup used to record the previous, 50's-style clips (see specs below). The actual pickup specs were somewhat different, though: Alnico 5 magnets (Rautia custom stagger, beveled), scatterwound with Heavy Formvar wire, DC Resistance: 5.95K (N & M) 6.85K (B), bridge pickup fitted with a custom machined bass plate. Clips: bridge, bridge/middle, middle, middle/neck, neck.
BONUS: Wilkinson bridge comparison clip. All parameters remained unchanged, apart from the bridge that was swapped in the middle of the recording session. You'll hear a short riff played ten times and arranged in five pairs (= five pickup selector switch positions). In each pair, the first riff is recorded using the Wilkinson VSVG bridge, and the second one using the newer WV6SB model. Both bridges feature a steel (sustain) block. In addition, string height and intonation settings were set similarly on both bridges.

We have been quite busy beta-testing our prototype single-coils, but we decided to give you a heads-up by means of a few preliminary clips of our 50's-style Strat-size single-coils in action. First, here are the nitty-gritty details of the recording setup: Tyler Guitars Classic (alder/rosewood/VSVG, strung with .011s, tuned 1/2 step down) > Evidence Audio Lyric HG > Carr Rambler > Heritage Amplification Custom 212 (solid pine, 2 x Eminence Cannabis Rex) > Soundelux iFet7 > Metric Halo Mobile I/O ULN-2 > Digidesign Pro Tools LE). Second, here are the specs of the pickups in question: Alnico 2 magnets (flat, non-beveled), scatterwound with Heavy Formvar wire, DC Resistance: 5.7K (N & M) 6.0K (B), bridge pickup fitted with a custom machined bass plate (see pic below!). Finally, here are the the actual clips: bridge, bridge/middle, middle, middle/neck, neck. Enjoy!
